Applying metrics for predictability (AMP)

“When is it over?” “How many elements will be completed in the next version of my software?” When will all the elements of the backlog finished? “These are some of the first questions your customers will ask you as soon as you start working for them.

This practical workshop will give you the tools to answer these questions predictably in this training, participants will learn the necessary measures to establish a reliable forecast, how to visualize these measures in appropriate analyses, how to use these analyses to make reliable forecasts and understand the risks and, finally, how to do interventions significantly to improve the overall process.

Content:

  • Flow metrics: a deep dive into the WIP, cycle time and flow, including why you need to follow them, how they are linked by Little law and why they are essential for forecasting.
  • Flow analysis: an introduction to cumulative flow diagrams (CFD), dispersion diagrams, histograms and other support graphs, including a detailed discussion on their nature, how to generate them correctly, and how to use them for better predictability.
  • Forecast using Monte Carlo simulation: how to use flow measures to answer the question “when it is over?”-including an introduction to the simulation of Monte Carlo and Statistical sampling methods for forecast (without advanced mathematics!).
  • Risk quantification and risk management: understanding the risk to develop reliable forecasts – including how to quantify the risk in the various analysis graphs and change forecast data can help build a global risk profile.
  • How to start: immediately apply these techniques to your current project or process to obtain the expected results, including the data to collect, how to use your data and the amount of data you need to start. “

Objectives

  • An understanding of the Lean-Agile measures necessary for predictability.
  • An ability to make reliable forecasts for unique elements, including how to provide when a user story (User Story), an epic (EPIC) or functionality is completed.
  • A capacity to make reliable forecasts for multiple elements, including knowing when all the remaining elements in a backlog will be completed or an ability to project how many elements will be completed for a given release date and the risks associated with each.
  • An understanding of how to use flow measures and analyses to obtain a stable process, including understanding why a regular process is necessary for reliable forecasts.

Target Audience

The Predictability Applying Metricutability course addresses anyone asked to answer the question, “When is it over?” Or who had to give an estimate for a user story (User Story), an epic (Epic), a functionality, a project and a release?

This includes managers, managers or team members who want better understanding and more excellent health and performance transparency in their process. Anyone who currently uses Agile or Lean methodologies and is interested in improving the overall predictability and efficiency of their current practices will benefit from the application of metrics for predictability.

Certification

After all the Pyxis lessons that lead to a prokanban.org certification, you will have the opportunity (a free attempt) to validate your understanding of metrics and forecasts. We will invite you to take an online test that will assess your understanding and give you advice on the points to improve. This exclusive assessment is only available for participants in the course.

You will receive the link to the exam within 24 to 48 hours of your training. Before taking the exam, you can train by answering the following questions: Professional Applied Metrics Open Assessment.
